Underwater Photographer of the Year 2017 - See Best Award Winning Photos

Underwater Photography Contest : The 2017 International Underwater Photographer of the year has been announced. The award winner is French photographer Gabriel Barathieu,who captured a "Dancing Octopus" in a lagoon on the island of Mayotte in the Indian Ocean. The winner is chosen from over 4500 underwater photos sent by photographers from 67 countries around the world. Prizes and commendations were also handed out in a number of categories, including Wide Angle, Macro, Wrecks, Compact,Behavior, Up & Coming, In British waters wide angle, In british water Compact, and In british waters macro shots. Barathieu says, "I had to wait for a low spring tide when the water was just 30cm deep (1 foot) so that the octopus would fill the water column, I had to wait for a low spring tide when the water was just 30cm deep (1 foot) so that the octopus would fill the water column".
